About the Oskar-Helene-Heim Foundation
The Oskar-Helene-Heim Foundation in Berlin promotes science and research in the field of medicine, particularly orthopedics, pulmonology, the treatment of abdominal diseases, and orthopedic technology. To this end, the foundation supports research projects and other charitable health-promoting initiatives, awards scholarships, and presents the annual Oskar Medical Prize and Helene Medal. The foundation was established in 1966, but its roots date back to 1905, when industrialist Oskar Pintsch, together with his wife Helene Pintsch and Dr. Konrad Biesalski, founded an association whose goal was to heal, educate, and monitor young people with health disabilities.
Until 2000, the foundation was the sponsor of the renowned Oskar-Helene-Heim orthopedic hospital and, following a merger, was the sponsor of the Emil von Behring Central Clinic in southwest Berlin from 2000 to 2004. In 2004, the Oskar-Helene-Heim Foundation and HELIOS Kliniken GmbH founded HELIOS Klinikum Emil von Behring GmbH as a joint venture within the framework of a strategic partnership.
