Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer: Cells within the excluded stroma that have been neglected reveal which patients have a good prognosis
The “Histology” research group at the Borstel Research Center, Leibniz Lung Center has identified a simple yet meaningful cell pattern in the connective tissue surrounding the tumor that provides important clues about long-term survival in patients with non-small cell lung cancer.

Zieleinlauf geschafft: Biologielaborantinnen und Biologielaboranten feierlich verabschiedet
Im Gartensaal des Borsteler Herrenhauses fand am vergangenen Dienstag die traditionelle Abschlussfeier der Biologielaborantenausbildung statt. Nach dreieinhalb Jahren Ausbildung erhielten die Absolventinnen und Absolventen ihre Zeugnisse und Gesellenbriefe. Gemeinsam mit Familien, Ausbilderinnen und Ausbildern sowie Kolleginnen und Kollegen feierten sie diesen besonderen Tag.

LCI Summer School 2026: Early-career researchers explore InfectOmics and Pathogen Data Science
From 22–24 June 2026, around 70 PhD researchers from three Leibniz institutes gathered in Plön for the annual LCI Summer School, held at the Youth, Recreation and Education Centre Koppelsberg amid summer temperatures.

First Presentation Award for Thomas Theo Brehm at the Congress for Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine (KIT) 2026
The Research Center Borstel, Leibniz Lung Center was represented at the 17th Congress for Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine (KIT) 2026 in Cologne with several scientific contributions on tuberculosis. A particular highlight was the presentation award granted to PD Dr. Thomas Theo Brehm from the Clinical Infectious Diseases Research Group, who received the congress's First Presentation Award.

Double success for Borstel tuberculosis research at the ESM Congress
Two female scientists from the Borstel Research Center, Leibniz Lung Center (FZB) have been honoured at this year’s Congress of the European Society of Mycobacteriology (ESM) in Verona: Dr ir. Margo Diricks received the 2026 Gertrud Meissner Prize, whilst Dr Viola Dreyer was awarded a poster prize.
