We are the lung research center of the Leibniz Association.
Our main focus: Common diseases such as asthma, allergies and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), as well as infection-related inflammation of the lungs, in particular tuberculosis (TB).

    Lindsay Sonnenkalb receives Isabelle-Olivieri Medal

    Dr. Lindsay Sonnenkalb from the Research Center Borstel, Leibniz Lung Center (FZB) has been awarded the 2026 Isabelle-Olivieri Medal for an outstanding publication in the field of translational evolutionary research. The €5,000 award was presented early September during the TransEvo retreat “Evolution by the Lake”.

    Drug-resistant tuberculosis in Ukraine driven by transmission of successful bacterial strains

    One of the largest genomic studies of tuberculosis in Ukraine reveals extensive transmission of drug-resistant strains, while resistance to key fluoroquinolones declined substantially between 2019 and 2023.
