We are the lung research center of the Leibniz Association.
Our main focus: Common diseases such as asthma, allergies and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), as well as infection-related inflammation of the lungs, in particular tuberculosis (TB).

Poster prize for a scientist from Borstel

At this year’s annual conference of the German Centre for Lung Research (DZL), which took place in Wiesbaden from 9 to 11 June, Tim Hasenbein from the “Biomolecular Data Science in Pneumology” research group won a poster prize in the “Artificial Intelligence & Digital Tools” category.

Together against antibiotic-resistant tuberculosis in Europe

On 8–9 June 2026, more than 50 leading specialists in the field gathered in Chișinău, Republic of Moldova, for the 1^st Antimicrobial Stewardship in Tuberculosis Conference. A further 50 experts joined online, with participants representing more than 40 countries across the World Health Organization (WHO) European Region.

A comprehensive global analysis reveals a marked increase in drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) among children. Girls in particular face a higher risk of death—highlighting significant gaps in diagnosis, treatment, and equitable access to healthcare.
