We are the lung research center of the Leibniz Association.
Our main focus: Common diseases such as asthma, allergies and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), as well as infection-related inflammation of the lungs, in particular tuberculosis (TB).

    Once infected, men and women have the same risk of developing active tuberculosis.

    Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by bacteria, primarily affecting the lungs. Typical symptoms of tuberculosis include coughing, fever, night sweats, and weight loss. Tuberculosis bacteria are usually transmitted through the air when infected individuals cough, and contact persons inhale the bacteria-containing air. The risk of infection is particularly high in crowded or poorly ventilated spaces.
